Lucy Turner is a UK based performance artist, dancer, choreographer, model, actress, teacher and creative; currently training at London Contemporary Dance School. At the age of 21, she is best known for BBC 1's 'The Greatest Dancer Season 2', Canon advertisement and Pineapple Dance Studio's 2017 promotional material. After winning Starmaker Theatre Company's Best Dancer award aged 15, she progressed to being crowned Move It Dance Convention's Freestyle Stage Champion in 2022.
Her modelling career began in theatre poster work for numerous productions; Action To The Word's 'Romeo and Juliet', The Big Act's 'Sweet Charity', The Other Palace's 'Reputation', Fresh Aire's 'Rogers and Hammerstein's Favourite Things', The Brother Grimm's 'Cinderella', The Park Theatre's 'Napoli Brooklyn'. Other notable credits include Fulton Umbrellas and the Hear My Voice Project.
Her creativity has resulted in her construction of complex and thought-provoking choreography which has been recognised nationally across the UK and within the U Dance Festival. Her work is often described as mathematical as she utilises her facility to create geometric shapes across different dance genres and diaspora. In 2019 she became the first under 18 to win the Tudor Rose choreography cup, also winning the Magnetar Choreography Award during the pandemic.
Lucy is currently exploring and teaching psychology-based, creativity-enhancing techniques to help all types of dancers, choreographers and creators find their artistic voice. Such techniques were first explored in 'The Artist Inside Documentary (2020). She has been teaching at Move It Dance convention consecutively since 2022, as well as teaching at dance and performance schools across Southern England.
Lucy's creative direction and production has since expanded in both screen dance : 'Web Of Wombs', 'The Tartu Piano', 'Hours' - and theatre work: ‘Don’t Wake Dad’, 'Dendro', 'My Blue Is Not Your Blue', 'The Moon & I', with 'Simon Says' premiering at The Place Theatre. Some collaborative dance and performance credits include projects such as Eden Dance Wear X Move It Mainstage 2019, Motion Dance Collective's body percussion screen dance film, and her production team involvement as the assistant choreographer for Starmaker Theatre Company's 'All Shook Up'.
In 2023, Lucy released a vulnerably exposing autoethnographic film 'Who Said Zebras Can't Dance?' as part of her activism to raise awareness for disabled bodies in dance, as well as singing at an Ehlers Danlos Syndrome fundraising Gala for disabled performers. In 2023, she Co-Founded Hidden Rhythms Disability Society - working with organisations such as Equity Union, Move It Dance Convention, Dancer’s Career Development, STEPPS and The Place to make the arts more accessible. She uses her social media platforms to advocate ways that the industry can better support those with unconventional dance bodies.
